Stephen Garcia has been suspended indefinitely from the USC Gamecocks football program, Athletics Director Eric Hyman announced today. This comes on the heels of being suspended for the first week of Spring practice. This is Garcia’s fifth suspension and second this spring since coming to South Carolina in January 2007.
Is it five strikes and you are out?
Word is he could not handle his alcohol at a Life Skills event put on by the university last night but Garcia has indicated to the AP that it’s not related to alcohol or being arrested.
We will await Spurrier’s comments and more on this story before we provide our opinion. Here is AD Eric Hyman’s comment:
“Being a student-athlete at the University of South Carolina is a privilege, not a right,” said Hyman. “We have expectations for our student-athletes and we make them aware that there are consequences for their actions. Stephen has exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student-athletes. Therefore, he has forfeited the privilege to participate in any football related activity until further notice.”
