The 2013 football season was certainly one to remember for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks on the football field. USC concluded the season with yet again 11 wins, won the bowl game and beat Clemson again. Not shabby at all and it is refreshing to see the Gamecocks performing at such a consistent high-level.
The 2013 season had one really bad game and that was Tennessee. The high-points of the season can be seen in three games and they were:
1. The 27-24 win versus the Missouri Tigers. In this game, USC overcame a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and end up on the winning side. What made it the best was the comeback but also the play of Connor Shaw as he rose to the challenge. Let’s not forget the play of Bruce Ellington, he had two touchdowns to go with 10 catches and 136 yards. In a way, this game was like when Spain beat the Netherlands in the last few minutes in the last World Cup. Now, just as many think about the World Cup 2014 picks and the energy from that game above, you have to think about the energy USC brings into the 2014 season.
2. USC beating the socks off Arkansas by the score of 52-7. The ‘Hogs may have scored first but the Gamecocks rattled off 52 unanswered points. Another great part of this game was that USC churned up rushing yards, to the tune of 277 yards on the ground. These are the type games that are fun to watch and especially given the history versus Arkansas.
3. Beating Clemson, Again. Five in a row. Say that again, five in a row. Not many outside the USC fanbase gave the Gamecocks a chance, heck it is not like live betting on World Cup 2014. Bottom line, USC proved once again that they are ahead of Clemson as far as a program. USC forced six turnovers and each time was fun to watch. The win also gave USC a perfect winning record at home in 2013 (7-0) and the 18th straight win at home.
