Stop me if you have heard this before but the South Carolina Gamecocks football team is recruiting Brandon Golson. Yeap, here we go again.
Why this time you ask….Well, the Gamecocks are in need of another linebacker to add to the 2013 football recruiting class as they have lost out on Tommy Sanders recently and Matt Rolin switched his pledge to the Florida Gators. So where do the Gamecocks need to turn for a solution? Should it be former USC commitment Brandon Golson of Calhoun County and Georgia Military JC. I say no.
If you recall, Golson and the Gamecocks have been down this road before. This goes back to when he signed with USC in 2010 but did not qualify so he spent a semester at Fork Union Prep with hopes of coming back to USC. However, USC would not admit him for 2011 so he signed with Louisville but a test score was disqualified and ended his time under Coach Charlie Strong. So he re-enrolled at Georgia Military and here we are now in 2012. He claims to have remained interested in USC but took official visits to Texas A&M and Arizona before committing to the Wildcats after being solid with signing with the Gamecocks.
I understand the need at linebacker is great for USC but Golson is not the answer. His recruitment has more twists and turns than a episode of General Hosipital. USC does not need this. Either you bleed garnet and black and want to be "all in" with USC or not.
USC is on the cusp of back-to-back eleven win seasons, elite programs don't do things like this with recruits as I can gurantee there are other players desiring to wear the Gamecock jersey that will not bring with it the drama. This is not worth the two years that Golson can play for USC. It is not like this is the number one player or something like that. As stated in August of 2012, USC should end the recruitment of Brandon Golson. Both should simply part ways and move on.
