The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team defeated Stetson by the score of 8-2 today after the game was delayed last night due to weather. The USC victory advances the Gamecocks to the Super Regionals, which they will host in Columbia, to face the winner of UConn and Clemson.
USC got the needed offense from Scott Wingo and Christian Walker as they both went 3-for-4 in today’s game and combined to score three runs. Robert Beary and Steven Neff each went 2-for-5.
As far as pitching, USC’s Forrest Koumas got the start and went 4.0 innings but it was John Taylor (5-1) who picked up the win in relief for the Gamecocks as he went a strong 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits while walking a pair.
Matt Price earned his 17th save with 2.2 scoreless innings that included two strikeouts.
Robert Beary was named the Most Valuable Player of the Columbia Regional, and Wingo, Walker, Evan Marzilli, Adrian Morales and Michael Roth were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Gamecocks (48-14) have now won 17 consecutive postseason games at home, dating back to 2003, and has won nine straight NCAA Tournament games overall.
