GameDay Preview: 26. Boston @ Winnipeg

WPJ
Don’t enjoy that Pittsburgh victory for to long folks, the Bruins are back on the ice tonight as they take on the Atlantipeg Trashets. Before I get rolling, I want to make something clear. There are tons of people who are on the Twitter machine claiming they’ve been Jets fans “forever”. If that’s the case, then you’re now a fan of the Phoenix Coyotes. The new Jets don’t have the same history as the old Jets, plain and simple. There’s no debating it. It would be the same if the Nordiques came back. Unless the Avalanche move back to Quebec (which they won’t) then the current Nordiques aren’t the same as the old Nordiques. I understand that everyone wants to be a team like Boston, rich in history and stable in their city. This is why I call them the Atlantipeg Trashets. If we are all about “history” lets be honest with oursevles.

But the real question is this: After an emotional and fantastic hockey game, is there the inevitable emotional letdown tonight? One would have to think that playing a full 60 minutes then traveling to Winnipeg would have to be exhausting. Couple that with the Bruins having only one back-to-back so far this season (and it was at home), they have to be tired. That back-to-back at home looks good on paper because the Bruins came away with 3 out of 4 points, but it wasn’t easy. There are some similarities between this back-to-back and the one at the end of November.

  1. The Bruins faced an elite opponent. The day after Thanksgiving (US) the Bruins faced the Detroit Red Wings in a game that ended in a shootout loss for the Bruins. Last night the B’s faced off against the East’s top team and battled to a 3-1 victory. Both games were hard nosed, chippy and energetic games.
  2. The opponent of the second game on both back-to-backs were the Atlantipeg Thrashets.

What happened last time? Sure, Boston won but they had to battle back to do it. The Bruins were down 2-0 pretty quick into that game and had to battle back. It took Chris Kelly and his hockey stick that was carved from a tree that was stuck by the Gods to get back into it. The Bruins may not be so lucky if they go down early.

Also factor in that Atlantipeg hasn’t played since Saturday, which gives them a nice two day break between games.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like this one bit, but the Bruins have been playing well so all of this could just be malarkey. MALARKEY I’S TELLS YOU!

After the jump, let’s finish this bad boy off...
