Welcome to this Tuesday edition of the Gameday Thread for tonight’s contest versus the Winnipeg Jets. I was honored to be asked to do this tonight (no one else was available obviously).

Jets News and Notes
Michael Hutchinson is first goalie off and looks like he starts for #NHLJets vs #CBJ who go with Sergei Bobrovsky

With #NHLJets D Toby Enstrom out, Grant Clitsome draws back in on D and will play with Zach Bogosian vs #CBJ

Clitsome is back and in the lineup. I know some people who will be interested in seeing that. He replaces Enstrom in the lineup, which hopefully amounts to a big plus for the Jackets.
Blue Jackets News and Notes
#CBJ lines: Hartnell-Johansen-Foligno; Calvert-Jenner-Skille; Gibbons-Anisimov-Atkinson; Tropp-Wennberg-Boll.

The Blue Jackets come into tonight losers of three in a row, but luckily for them Winnipeg comes in also losers of three straight. Something has got to give. Here’s hoping at the very least home ice gives Columbus the advantage.

That they do! It looks like Hartnell-Johansen-Foligno are together tonight. Look for them to get a PP goal tonight.
In-Game Thoughts
First Period
WELL THAT SUCKED….Here’s hoping we can say they played a good 59 minutes and 51 seconds
There’s the newish guy with a goal LEOPOLD and that bad PK that Jeremy mentioned we need to take advantage of. New game!
First Period Summary
After a bad nine seconds the Jackets turned things around and actually had a pretty decent stretch of play. They took advantage of a powerplay chance early to make up for the early gaff and get the crowd back into it. Boll had a questionable hit that was dangerously close to or possibly suspendable (Oh no what would we do…). Johansen ended a late powerplay with a lazy stick play that led to a double minor for high sticking that had Wheeler go down hard into the end boards.
Second Period
Great setup by Wennberg to send Atkinson in on the breakaway….but he missed.
Well the 5 on the 3 has ended with Winnipeg probably getting the best chance and so has the powerplay after a pretty soft goalie interference call against Hartnell.
4 on 4 ends and a quick goal by Kane assisted by Byfuglien (I regret buying them drinks a few weeks ago now)
3-1 Winnipeg after a very strange play where we were about to be penalized for pushing someone into Bob. Not our best period.
Second Period Summary
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but really it was just the worst of times. A disaster of a period thanks to some costly penalties that were probably penalties, but definitely subjective. The Jackets have some powerplay time carrying over into the third and will need to strike quickly to get back into this one. SCORE EFFECTS TIME HERE WE COME!
Third Period
Five minutes into the period and score effects have not activated yet. We’re currently locating the issue and hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Johansen!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-2 We have found the score effects. I repeat the score effects have been found.
What chances for Gibbons and Anisimov but they can’t catch a break. Still 3-2 with 8 minutes remaining.
Atkinson off the crossbar so close! Two minutes left CAN WE DO IT??????
Too many man on the ice penalty because Bob played the puck when a man was coming on for him for the 6 on 5. Unbelievable…
Evander Kane with the empty net goal and that will do it. Damn
Final Thoughts
The Jackets put together an effort. It just wasn’t a very good one. There were very few bright spots in that game and most of those came when the team was down late, which is a familiar theme of most struggling teams. They were outworked and outclassed for the majority of the game. This season is likely a story already written of too many injuries to overcome. But, a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel would be nice. Hopefully that comes sooner than later.
