>Gators Snatch Another Lakeland Dreadnaught WR in McRoy

>Its been a relatively long time since Urban Meyer and his recruiting team made some noise. Roughly two months to be exact! But the Florida Gators are back with another premier recruit out of Polk County, FL. Wide receiver, Javares McRoy is the latest Lakeland High School Dreadnaught to commit to play for the Gators. He makes the fifth Gator recruit to be added to the 2011 class.

Believe it or not Florida wasn’t McRoy’s first choice. He actually originally committed to Texas Tech along with his brother, Benjamin. That’s a very rare move for a Lakeland High football recruit as they usually tend to stay in the southeast. In 2007 the Gators signed a total of seven Dreadnaughts, a class that was featured with recent NFL draft picks Major Wright and Carlos Dunlap. McRoy implied to the Lakeland Ledger that he chose UF because they fit his running style. Not quite sure what that means but we’ll have to see. He’s the first offensive skill player of the year so i’m hoping his high school exploitations translate well into the SEC.

In a spring game this past May, McRoy lit up Tarpon Springs HS for 299 yards on nine carries (33.2 yds per carry). Totally insane! Judging from this 2009 highlight film, the young man may very well be ready for the SEC. By the way, you know coach Meyer doesn’t redshirt freshmen.

(Javares is #9. His brother, Ben is #21)
