The Pacers were looking like they were going to capture their first 4-game winning streak of the season when they had the defending champion Spurs on the ropes with a 9-point lead with under six minutes to go.
But of course, this is the Spurs we’re talking about, and their late-game execution and extra chance points proved to be the difference as they came all the way back to secure a 95-93 win when former Spur George Hill missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. The win was coach Popovich’s 1,000th for his NBA career, and perhaps it was fitting that he got it done in his home state of Indiana.
Rodney Stuckey led the team with 18 points, while David West had 10 and a season-high 18 boards to go with 7 assists. Roy Hibbert had 10 and 8,and George Hill finished with just 7 points and 5 assists against his former team. Cj Miles (13), Luis Scola (11) and Solomon Hill (10) all finished in double digits.
So yeah, it was a disappointing loss considering how close the Pacers were. That said, the team has been very solid as of late, and will likely continue this strong playoff push as long as there are no more injuries.
Next up for the 20-33 Pacers, a road date with the potentially Anthony Davis-less Pelicans in New Orleans on Wednesday night.
