After the close game last year in Nashville and post-game fracas between James Franklin and Todd Grantham, this was a game that was circled on some calendars. In the lead up to the game, the expectation was the Georgia would win but would probably have to labor a bit to do so.
As it turned out, Georgia put forth it’s best effort of the season and simply dominated Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt came out jittery as they committed multiple infractions on their first few series. On the other hand, Georgia took their first four drives and scored TDs on all of them.
Georgia built a 27-0 lead before taking a 27-3 lead into halftime and then built that into 48-3 at the end of the third quarter when Georgia finally pulled it’s starters. For Georgia, it was an impressive display of dominance in just about every aspect of the game (except extra point kicking where they bobbled a snap and clanged one in off the uprights).
Aaron Murray was on target as he went 18 of 24 for 250 yards and 2 TDs and he played turnover free football. Once again, Georgia’s freshmen RBs Todd Gurley (130 yds, 2 TD) and Keith Marshall (82 yds, 2 TD) played a starring role. The veteran receivers, Marlon Brown (114 yds rec, 1 TD) and Tavarres King (4 rec, 1 TD) had good games. The defense, led by Jarvis Jones (2 sacks) and Amarlo Herrera, kept the Dores out of the end zone.
Overall, this was the most complete game Georgia has played this season and with Bacarri Rambo and Alec Ogletree due back next week the future looks good. Florida and South Carolina loom but Georgia will now welcome the Tennessee Volunteers into Sanford Stadium next week in what will be a tougher match-up than the Dores provided.
