Get Well Soon, Ueck

MLB: Phillies vs Brewers OCT 4

This is the kind of news I hate writing about — Bob Uecker will finish calling this series against the Pittsburgh Pirates and will undergo heart surgery on Friday.  The news made Ueck a trending topic on Twitter (to see the latest good wishes tweets, go here).

Uecker is expected to return to the Brewers radio airwaves in 10 to 12 weeks, and while it will be tough listening to Brewers baseball without him, the important thing here is that he makes a full recovery.  Corey Provus will move into the #1 role, and Davey Nelson is expected to cross over from the TV pregame show to the radio broadcast.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Ueck.

Many people across the Brewers Blogosphere are paying tribute to him in their own way.  Check out Miller Park Drunk’s “10 Reasons Bob Uecker is better than whoever your announcer is,” an updated version of the post that got a lot of linkage across the interwebs last year.

If you’ve been reading me for awhile, chances are you know that I’m a huge fan of the Major League movies (I even joked last night that perhaps Gregg Zaun needs to take a page from Rube Baker’s book).  In an effort to pay tribute to Ueck in my own way, here is one of my favorite clips from Major League 2.  It actually reminds me of Jeff Suppan a bit:

Of course, there’s also the classic “Way Back!  Way Gone!  Grand Slam for Ryan Braun!” call from 2008, which can be heard in this Ryan Braun tribute (about :42 in):

Get well soon, Ueck.
