Getting them back

Johnny O says it will be HUGE

Does Gonzalez fit into that? That has been an off-season question, but it’s easy to forget that in 2007-2008 Gonzalez was developing into a play-making receiver. He was integral to the Colts’ offense at times in 2008 and showed signs of being a major factor running after the catch. Garcon showed ability in that area last season, as did Collie, but Gonzalez’s ability to make plays and produce first downs after the catch may have helped in the second half of a Super Bowl when the offense unexpectedly stalled in the season’s biggest moment.

That’s a specific that can’t really be known, but what is known is the Colts made the Super Bowl without Sanders or Gonzalez last season, and in retrospect, that’s fairly remarkable. Sanders was the first player selected by the Colts in the 2004 NFL Draft and Gonzalez was the first player selected by the team in 2007. Usually, teams that get little production out of such selections struggle to make post-seasons, much less Super Bowls.

Getting such players back not only should help the Colts, it could make them a more balanced, more-dangerous team.
