Danny Ainge and his crew drafted 4 guys in last night’s surprising and unusual draft. These players have to continue their determination for making the Boston Celtics. Let’s meet the newest players of the Boston Celtics.
Terry Rozier- A 6’2 190 pound point guard from Pitino’s Cardinals, Rozier came onto the scene after Louisville’s starting guard went down. Rozier is widely considered as a hardworking player who is a scrapper. As opposing college coaches have pointed out, Rozier with his athletic abillties, is able to outrebound a guy who is 6’10 and 275 pounds. Rozier averaged about 18 points per game and led his team into the tourney along with fellow teammate Montrezl Harrell (chosen by Houston). Balancing him with Smart and Bradley can make all the difference in this already good defensive team.
R.J. Hunter- A shooting stud out of Georgia State, Hunter made Boston fans extremely happy. Hunter is arguably considered as one of the best natural shooters in this draft. At 6’5-6’6, Hunter has a size advantage and finishing touch which made NBA scouts drool to get him. Hunter nailed the 3 point shot to send Baylor home in the tourney this past March during the first round. Hunter averaged 19 points per game and has an excellent free throw percentage (88%). Hunter will affect this team in multiple different ways on the offensive side of the ball.
Jordan Mickey- Mickey was a prospect that I enjoyed watching and had interest in drafting. Mickey is from LSU and had a phenomenal year. Mickey led the entire NCAA in blocks this year (113 blocks) and averaged 15 points a game alongside fellow big man Jarell Martin (selected by Memphis Grizzlies). At 6’8 in shoes, Mickey is considered a undersized power forward but he will adapt well with his blocking abilities. Mickey heads into a team with Zeller, Olynyk, and Bass who will show him through the loops of being a big man.
Marcus Thornton- Marcus is an interesting prospect out of William & Mary. Thornton is a shooting guard with quickness to back up for his 6’3 stature. Thornton was a boss a shooting the 3 ball for The Tribe. He shot an impressive 40% from behind the arc and averaged 20 points a game. Thornton will have to compete very hard as this roster will most certainly be involved in trades but I do like Thornton and what he can bring to the table in he long run.
