Years ago, a story was circulating about Wade Boggs. You know…the one where he once, allegedly, drank dozens(!) of beers on a team flight.
“He was famous for baseball, he was also famous for the number of beers he could drink,” actor Charlie Day told Jimmy Fallon Monday night. “Supposedly, when they would have these cross county flights he would drink on average 40 to 50, some say 70 beers.”
Oh, and if you know Day is on “The Tonight Show” talking about the Hall of Fame third baseman, something is up. That’s right, on the tenth season premiere of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, the gang tries to break Boggs’ “record” of cross country drinking. But here’s the fun part, Boggs himself showed up, playing himself, giving advice to Day’s character Charlie Kelly.
And how was Boggs on set?
“He was great…although I’m pretty sure he was drinking actual beer when we were filming. We all had prop beer and I noticed at one point…he’s drinking now,” Day joked. “He’s an alcoholic. But highly functioning!”
About that cross country beer binge? Well, according to Day, Boggs said the drank 107. 107!
