On Saturday afternoon, the Giants and Hunter Pence agreed to a five-year, $90 million dollar deal.
Sources: Pence in agreement with #SFGiants, pending physical, as others have reported. Five years, $90M. Announcement expected tomorrow.

This deal was really surprising to me. I really think that the Giants over payed here. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pence as a player, and I think he is very talented, but $90 million dollars is way too much. Pence is hitting .282 with 26 homers, which is good. Still, I think the Giants over payed here.
What effect does this have on the Phillies? The Phillies have had little to no production from right field this year, and Pence was one of the only right handed right fielders that was going to be available in free agency this offseason. I wanted the Phillies to sign Pence, but if they were going to have to give him $18 million dollars per year, then I wouldn’t have wanted the Phillies to sign him. I think that the Giants saved the Phillies here.
This helps the Giants a ton, because Pence is a great player, but I think they could’ve signed him for much cheaper.
