Go win it for Tyler Moeller

26 - moeller

Just two days ago, I was discussing bad timing and how Beanie Wells’ birthday fell one day off of his special place here at The BBC and our overdone countdown. I had no idea that timing would mean everything today.

Today is day #26. Yesterday I started looking for a Buckeye who wore #26 to showcase today. The list had a fair share of choices;

  • Will Allen
  • Robert Smith
  • Ashton Youboty

And then the news broke.  Tyler Moeller may have suffered a season-ending injury before the season even begins.

The details are still sketchy, but here’s what we know so far (from varying different sources, which include the actual University, Radio Rivals, Ken Gordon, and a bevy of our favorite blogs) – Sometime in July, Moeller was on vacation with his family in Florida.  While at a bar, somebody apparently identified Moeller as a football player at the Ohio State University.

Soon after, while Moeller wasn’t looking, a Florida resident approached Moeller and sucker-punched him in the head.  On the fall to the ground, his head struck concrete and the obvious result occurred.

He managed to shake off the injury and finish his vacation, but seizures began appearing when he returned to Columbus and Moeller did not report to camp yesterday.  The University says he may be released from the hospital today and Jim Tressel will hold a press conference to discuss it tomorrow morning.

This leaves Buckeye fans like myself feeling several different types of emotion.

Personally, I’m angry over the whole damn story.  The guy who sucker-punched Moeller….did they arrest the guy and if so, can we have a crack at him ourselves?  Clearly a cowardly man like this deserves to feel the sting of what he did to another human being whose only crime was playing football for a team from (gasp) the Big Ten.

Yeah, you showed him, Cletus.   Did you get a high-five from your frineds when you returned from your brave little journey into assault, or were they too busy suckin’ down Pabst Blue Ribbon and wonderin’ why Dale Jr wasn’t livin’ up to him’s po-ten-shul?

But aside from the anger over this situation, we must look towards the future of a young man’s career.  Thankfully, the University has that world-renowned reputation for a reason.  Tyler’s in good hands, and with head injuries this is a crucial factor.  Trust me, I know all about dealing with this situation.

For now, Moeller is going to be missing practice and will probably end up out for the whole year…but there’s no way of telling when he could return.  No matter when his return should come, it doesn’t matter.  Football’s secondary to his health at this moment.  Let’s send him our best wishes.

And for the rest of our beloved Buckeyes….lace ’em up, you’ve got 13 wins to grab for Tyler Moeller.  Win them all for him, guys.
