Kalin’s Big Break Disney Golf Dream Ends
ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2009) – In a Big Break Disney Golf episode that began on Main Street U.S.A., Sean Kalin’s (Delray Beach, Fla.) dream of winning the series came to an end.
Kalin lost to Blake Moore (Monrovia, Calif.) in an elimination-challenge playoff to become the fourth player eliminated from the 10-week series. The two competed in a three-location, stroke-play challenge (greenside flop-shot/ 130 yard shot/275-yard shot) on the eighth hole at Disney’s Oak Trail Course. Tied at 11 strokes after the third location, Kalin pulled his tee shot left in the playoff from 275-yards while Moore hit the green. Unable to match Moore’s three point total, Kalin exited the series.
“Everyone’s goal is to win,” Kalin said. “Realistically, you can’t win in everything you do. Sometimes you have to lose to learn how to win. My kids and family will be proud to see me get this far.”

Considering his past, playing in Big Break Disney Golf was an accomplishment. A talented junior golfer, his future took a drastic turn when at the age of 10, he was abducted by his mom and stepfather, who took him to their home in Florida. After several days, he escaped and returned to his home in New York.
What he lost was his desire to play golf.
“After it happened, I decided to stop playing, because in my mind, I believed that I was kidnapped because of the game of golf,” he explained.
Kalin didn’t touch a golf club for more than 10 years, and when he did, in his early 20’s, he only played a few times. On Aug. 19, 2008, his birthday, he played again and immediately decided to pursue professional golf. To reach his goal, he started working with an instructor in the hopes of playing in the 2010 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.
“My goal when I first started was to give myself three years to get to the Nationwide or PGA TOUR,” Kalin said. “I am almost at the one year point and have accomplished more than I thought I could. I don’t have a backup plan, because you can’t plan on failure. You can just plan on succeeding.”
Big Break Disney Golf premiered with a field of 12 men – collectively the most talented cast in series history, but individually at different stages in their careers – battling for the opportunity to play professional golf at the highest level.
Shot mainly at both the Magnolia and Palm Courses at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla., the winner of the series will receive an exemption to compete in the 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Classic. The series marks the first time that a Big Break winner will compete in a TOUR event on the same course in which the series was filmed.
Utilizing unique venues at Walt Disney World Resort, Big Break Disney Golf’s challenges also will take place at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and the Walt Disney World Speedway. Intertwined into several episodes will be cameos by TOUR players and memorable moments from the Children’s Miracle Network Classic.
In addition to the tournament exemption, the winner will earn cash and prizes with a potential value of more than $50,000 that includes entry fees paid to compete in the 2010 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament from SkyCaddie, a $10,000 shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Good

Past Big Break champions won tournament exemptions to compete on some of the world’s top professional circuits, such as the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, European Tour, LPGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Canadian Tour. Former Big Breakers Tommy Gainey and James Nitties currently compete on the PGA TOUR while four previous female contestants currently play on the LPGA Tour, including Kristy McPherson, a member of the 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
The fifth episode of Big Break Disney Golf will air Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.

Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge Pros to Get The Golf Fix When GOLF CHANNEL Show Hits Vegas for Remote Production
ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2009) – The Golf Fix, GOLF CHANNEL’s popular Monday night series featuring the energetic instruction of renowned swing coach Michael Breed, is heading to Las Vegas for the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge.
A special, remote production to be aired as two shows in mid-December will be taped on location at Rio Secco Golf Club, which is located in the foothills of the Black Mountain Range and 15 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. Out of the network’s Orlando studio and on to the golf course, Breed will offer his unique approach to instruction to select tournament guests with the help of some of the world’s best professionals taking part in the charitable event – including Fred Couples, Stewart Cink, Natalie Gulbis and Nick Price – as well as world-renowned swing coach to the pros, Butch Harmon.
In its 18th year, the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge, benefiting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, is the only professional golf tournament that pits three players from the PGA TOUR, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour against each other in a head-to-head competition for bragging rights and a share of the $1 million purse.
“There is a special energy when The Golf Fix ventures out of the studio and onto the golf course,” said Breed. “Add in the opportunity to work with some of the top men and women in the golf, and the show will be something special.”
Breed was named one of the top 100 instructors by GOLF Magazine and has worked with PGA TOUR winners Joe Ogilvie, Chris Smith, and J.J. Henry, as well as over 30 PGA TOUR, LPGA and Nationwide Tour players. He also has authored the book “The Picture-Perfect Golf Swing” and is a contributor to both GOLF MAGAZINE and Sports Illustrated.
