Gonzalez, Duchscherer, and Wagner

Here are a few tasty nuggets fresh from the Hot Stove:

Adrian Gonzalez might be off of the table according to Buster Olney:

Spoke with an executive who was told flat-out: Adrian Gonzalez is not available. Timing isn’t right; that might change before July 31, 2010.

The Red Sox are looking at Justin Duchscherer according to Fox Sports:

The Red Sox are interested in Duchscherer as a starting pitcher, one major-league source said Wednesday. The right-hander didn’t pitch in the majors at all this year — in part because of clinical depression — and is now a free agent.

and Billy Wagner may have to lower his asking price if he wants to play anywhere other than Boston next season:

one executive speculated that Wagner could reduce his salary demands so far that some team — in particular, a team that finished with one of the 15 worst records in the majors and would have to surrender only a second-round pick — would be willing to give up the draft picks.

The Red Sox still have a shot at retaining him:

If you asked me if he would be open to returning to Boston right after the season ended I would say there was no chance. But he’s the one that brought it up to me,” he said. “He shared some stories that gave him comfort there in Boston that made him feel like could come back there. It was one of the most positive experiences that he ever had.”
