Good thing America is here to keep these two separated.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU-JEEU0Vv4] The World Baseball Classic continues, and today in the 9th inning, things got ugly between Mexico and Canada. Yeah. Mexico and Canada. Who knew? I will spare you the jibber jabber about people not caring about the WBC or whatever. It’s akin to, say, the African Cup of Nations in soccer. Sure, some of the athletes might care, but the countries don’t pay their salary, and the source of income will always come first. International competitions will always have their place, and worrying about the legitimacy of them is dumb. Players, I think, want to represent their country, but it just isn’t feasible all the time.

What I want to do is point out a few things. First, not only was this a baseball fight (awesome) it was a particularly nasty fight. Consider this quote from Larry Walker, Canadian coach, about Mexican, Boston Red Sox and noted crazy person Alfredo Aceves: “I had a hold of him and I thought I saw Satan in his eyes.” You don’t get that out of most baseball scuffles.

Second, if you didn’t know, that was Rene Tosoni who got hit and made his way towards the mound. He was eventually ejected. Yes, that Rene Tosoni. Justin Morneau was there too. He wasn’t about to stoop to that level or condone any of this — Wait “You got to stand up for yourself. You can’t just get pushed around,” Morneau said. Get this. Players left the Twins to play for Team Canada, and they ended up getting mean. That’s weird. It also goes to a point I’ve always had about the Twins. They seem incredibly, bothersomely dispassionate.

Third, Sergio Romo had nothing to do with this fight, but the cameras were on him, and by golly if he doesn’t just look sinister.

Here I thought the story of the WBC would be the Drew Butera led Italy winning their first two games.
