The last two days have been rather good for the Brewers.
On Friday, the Crew plated 17 runs in a 17-7 win against the Indians in their new facility in Goodyear, with Mike Cameron pacing the projected parent club starters by driving in a pair or runs, while prospects Mat Gamel drove in three runs and Alcides Escobar drove in a pair (Lorenzo Cain and Brad Nelson also drove in three runs each).
The Crew then followed that up with a 2-0 shutout over the Cubs…losers of their five straight games. Jeff Suppan pitched three scoreless innings, while allowing three hits but fanning three as well; J.J. Hardy had two of the Brewers’ six hits on the day, including a triple, while Corey Hart doubled and scored a run. Both of the Crews’ earned runs were off Cubs’ ace Carlos Zambrano.
Chris Narveson and Carlos Villanueva each pitched two scoreless innings…the Brewers’ five pitchers held the Cubs to just seven hits on the afternoon, all singles.
Tonight could be even bigger for the Brewers’ family, as two Brewers’ farmhands comprise the battery for the Italian team taking on the Venezuelans in the World Baseball Classic: Mark DiFelice will take the mound for the Italians, while Racine native Vinny Rottino will catch DiFelice. The two, presumably, worked with each other a bit in Maryvale, and it could make for an interesting evening, at least for Brewers’ fans.
Lastly, congrats to the Netherlands for beating the Dominican Republic…let’s go underdogs!
