Gonzalez, who has been on the business end of some of those hits, believes defensive players can and will adjust.
“When you’re playing football, for some reason, you have these moments of clarity where it seems like time almost freezes and you have these very vivid, concrete thoughts that occur in the blink of an eye,” he said. “And I’ve got to think those thoughts will come to the forefront when they see a defenseless receiver. Bottom line, if the penalty is severe enough, they won’t do it.”
