Gouveia: Goodell Needs To Face The Facts

I have been on vacation the past week and have been away from all the Facebook and Twitter gossip about the Deflategate scandal. After coming back today and reading about what I missed I have come to the conclusion that Goodell just needs to face the facts. He is standing by the Wells report way too much; he just needs to admit the report was not as good as expected there are just way to many flaws and unanswered questions.

Goodell is also standing by the “Protecting the integrity of the league” pitch which is also not a good excuse. There are so many more things to worry about than slightly under-inflated footballs. When I think of the integrity of the league I think about incidences like Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson I don’t think about how the NFL handled the slightly under-inflated footballs in the AFC Championship game.

It is just an absolute embarrassment that the NFL would allow Deflategate to go to this kind of level. The integrity of the league is already low and we all know it and it has nothing to with Delfategate. The thing that put it over the top for me was the Greg Hardy Incident. How in the world are you going to only suspend Greg Hard for four games after his role in a 2014 domestic violence incident.

The message I get from the league is we will give you a break when it comes to domestic violence but if you touch the PSI of a football you will be punished with no chance of a deduction. It just does not make sense to me. There are bigger fish to fry in the NFL offices than slightly under-inflated footballs. I am very happy Brady will be fighting this in court.
