Grading the Basketball Badgers: Ryan Evans

alfieanderik

For those who have been following this series you know we’ve been going in alphabetical order on the roster and you’re probably saying “What about Duje?”  Well, he gets an incomplete grade from us because the Sophomore only played in parts of 13 games this season and averaged less than 4 minutes a game, not exactly enough to give us a true sample size of his game.  He averaged 0.7ppg while shooting 57.1% from the field.  He also grabbed 0.5 rebounds a game.  So no grade for him.

But, that brings us to one of our two Most Improved Players of the Year, Ryan Evans.  Coming in people thought he’d be the big player compared to Mike Bruesewitz and that came because he seemed not to be able to figure it out on the offensive end of the court going into the season.

It’s safe to say we were all pretty wrong about Evans’ game and credit him for continuing to plug away and work hard on improving his offensive game.  It’s safe to say Wisconsin doesn’t make the tournament without all his contributions.  So, what did he do this season and what grade did we give him for his performance?

Overall Stats:

11.0ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.6apg, 33 blocks, 26 steals, 44%FG, 26.3% 3pt FG, 72.6%FT

Grades:

Cole: A –

Andy: A +

– If you told me as the season approached that Ryan Evans would be a key cog in the Badgers system, let alone being a consensus Honorable Mention All- Big Ten player I would’ve told you you were crazy.  I don’t know if you can really ask any more from a player like Evans.  He was the 2nd leading scorer for Wisconsin and led the Badgers in rebounding.  The only areas that he does need to improve on going into his Senior season are turnovers, he had just one less turnovers than assists (57 to 58) and his 3 point shooting (.263).  Luckily he isn’t going to be counted on as a sharpshooter from deep anytime soon.  He was also one of the most consistent players the Badgers had as his numbers didn’t really change all that much except for an increase in his FT shooting and a decrease in his 3 point shooting.  For that consistency and amazing increase in production I give him an A+.

Seriously, if you expected this kind of a season from Evans please contact us, because you my friend…. are a pure Genius.
