The Baltimore Orioles will be looking for another Closing Pitcher. Grant Balfour, who is 36 years old, failed the team’s physical which effectively shut the door.
This is truly odd considering that Balfour has not missed any games as of late. Clearly the Orioles saw something they didn’t like. However, fans should wonder how the decision was made and if the Orioles are adhering to very picky standards. How many 36-year-old pitchers are in near perfect health? Two of the team’s doctors did not see any problems with him.
The Orioles are concerned about Balfour’s right shoulder. He had surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff in 2006.
Balfour was very upset with the news, saying that he wants to be treated with respect.
The Orioles are eyeing Fernando Rodney and are discussing a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for veteran Jonathon Papelbon.
