Greg Maddux to Manage? Tony LaRussa to Not

The Chicago Cubs have had more than fifty managers since they last won the World Series in 1908.  And depending on who you listen to, team brass might be dipping into their past in an effort to help lead the Cubs into the future.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you can believe ESPN's Bruce Levine, Greg Maddux is being considered for the Cubs vacant managerial gig.  Or maybe it's the future Hall of Famer's brother…who can know, really?!?

Alright, we can all agree that Greg Maddux, who, for the last two seasons, has been serving as the special assistant to Texas Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels, is not going to be the next manager of the Cubs, right?  But is older brother Mike even a real candidate?!?

Most reports have Joe Girardi as the leading candidate and A.J. Hinch, Sandy Alomar Jr. and Manny Acta under consideration if the current New York Yankees skipper decides to not come to the Windy City.

Now, one manager that won't be managing the Cubs (or any other team, for that matter) is Tony LaRussa.

Because of his relationship with Cincinnati Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty, the 69-year-old was immediately rumored to be filling the team's managerial vacancy after Dusty Baker was let go Friday.

"I’m not managing any more," LaRussa told the St. Louis Post Dispatch.  "Walt has had more than enough of me."

LaRussa and Jocketty worked together for a dozen years while the pair was with the St. Louis Cardinals.
