Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that he’s not surprised that Wayne Gretzky is not participating in the Winter Classic alumni game as the NHL has effectively done nothing to help him get the $8 to $9 million he is owed by the Phoenix ownership that went bankrupt.
Brooks wonders why anyone would have expected “The Great One” to allow the NHL to use his name to promote the game.
Gretzky has said he would play in an alumni game for the Rangers when the Winter Classic is held at Yankee Stadium.
…to be honest, I haven’t followed this Gretzky/Phoenix issue at all. If that is the case, I don’t blame Gretzky for sitting this one out. How can the league not step up and help the greatest player to ever play the sport of hockey?
