Griffin or Cousins makes little difference to the Redskins’ 2015 season

The bottom line: Both Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins are average performers in Jay Gruden’s offense. It makes little difference to the outcome of the Redskins’ 2015 season whichever player starts at quarterback.

Robert Griffin III fans are utterly convinced of Kirk Cousins’ pending failure and in the doom of the Redskins. Clinton Portis says that RGIII’s very presence has polarized fans into a pro Redskins camp and a pro Griffin camp.

I thought of Tebow-mania when I read that. And then I shuddered.

Get over it, Redskins fans.

In the inept, blundering way that has defined the Redskins since the second departure of Saint Joe Gibbs, the front office somehow stumbled into the correct decision about Robert Griffin III.

Like Ohio State, the Redskins cannot go wrong with its quarterback choice because the season’s outcome will be little affected by whichever man starts. Any similarity to the Buckeyes’ ends there.

Kirk Cousins may not be Mr. Right. He is certainly Mr. Right Now.

RG lost his starter status for failing to develop as a pocket passer. Every opponent that studies video of the Lions-Redskins preseason game can plainly see how to defense Griffin – collapse the O-line and bring pressure, pressure, pressure.

The man cannot handle pressure while under center. His coach, Jay Gruden, has not noticed that read option is trendy in the NFL. If only he could coach it.

Hog Heaven does not blame Coach Gruden alone for this mess. He is only doing what team’s executive leaders, that once included the Griffin family, asked him to do.

Man, do I miss the Shanahans.

In Gruden’s offense, the difference between Griffin and Cousins is negligible. The performance level of both range somewhere between Josh McCown and Kyle Orton. The team has sunk to a new low. It’s embarrassing.

Perhaps Gruden can get these guys up to the Andy Dalton level of average as measured by ESPN’s QBR.

The Redskins must find other ways to win in 2015. Players, owners, coaches and fans need to move on from this QB controversy that isn’t that important.

We do think the ‘Skins are good for six or seven wins.

What are the odds?

Point after

Hog Heaven is not a sporting man. If he were, he wouldn’t touch the odds of Griffin playing.

RG is likely to make a game appearance, but the factors around it are so malleable, no projection is possible.

Hog Heaven would take the over on the projections for other players.
