When the San Antonio Spurs face the Memphis Grizzlies on opening night of their 2011-2012 season, Memphis might be facing San Antonio without big man Darrell Arthur.
Arthur suffered a serious Achilles injury (possible torn right Achilles) yesterday at Grizzlies practice and the team fears he could be out for the entire season.
Arthur has been a solid big man off the bench for Memphis backing up Zach Randolph and Spurs fans know all to well how much a thorn on the Spurs’ side he can be.
During last season’s playoff series against San Antonio, and he proved to be not just another big body to throw at the Spurs. For the playoff series, he compiled 48 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocked shots. Not to mention proving he could knock down the mid-range shot and be an energy guy off the bench for Memphis.
Aside from Randolph, Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol, without Arthur, the Grizzlies are now very thin at the power forward and center spots.
