Guardians of the Galaxy “Awesome Mix, Vol. 2” – What songs should be on it?

The summer blockbuster movie Guardians of the Galaxy featured a collection of songs, that Peter Quill AKA Star Lord (Chris Pratt) formed a strong attachment to over many years. The songs were assembled by Quill’s mother on a tape she labeled “Awesome Mix, Vol. 1”.

Back on November 19th, Google Play offered up a one day free download of the chart topping “Awesome Mix, Vol. 1″. Right now it can still be purchased for $5.99, which isn’t as good as free, but is still pretty damn good for 12 songs.

The track listing for this collection of songs is as follows: “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, “Go All the Way” by The Raspberries, “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum, “Moonage Daydream” by David Bowie, “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” by Elvin Bishop, “I’m Not in Love” by 10cc ,“I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5, “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways, “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes, “O-o-h Child” by Five Stairsteps, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

As random a mix as this assemblage of songs is, when seen in the context of the movie it achieves absolute perfection. At the end of the movie, Quill opens up a gift given to him by his mother to reveal that an “Awesome Mix, Vol. 2” exists.

Fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy and of “Vol. 1” will have to wait until May of 2017, when Guardians of the Galaxy 2 comes out,  to find out what songs were assembled for the second mix tape.

However it is fun to speculate what songs will be on it.

The folks over at Nerdist aren’t so much speculating what will be on it as much as they are suggesting their own playlist.

I, on the other hand, would like to know what songs you fans out there want to see on Guardians of the Galaxy “Awesome Mix, Vol. 2”.

So let’s get this going, shall we?

Come up with some suggestions and leave them in the comment section, but remember that they all have to precede 1988, since that’s when Quill’s mother gave him the tape.
