Being a sucker for lists, I clicked over Matt Brown’s list of the top 100 players in college football over on Sports on Earth today. The top 5 featured a couple of Buckeyes and a boatload of defenders, but the most important man on the list to the people who control+f Cincinnati was at number 90.
Gunner Kiel was ranked the 90th best player in college football. A month ago he was rated the 12th best quarterback by the same writer. Here is the write up about Kiel from today:
90. Gunner Kiel, QB, Cincinnati. Kiel finally settled into a starting role last year, after an eventful recruitment and a transfer from Notre Dame. Once a five-star recruit, he showed flashes of that ability as a sophomore for the Bearcats, including throwing for 352 yards and four touchdowns vs. Ohio State. He averaged 8.3 yards per attempt for the season, and with all his receivers returning, Kiel should be one of the nation’s most prolific passers for a team that can contend for a major bowl bid as an AAC frontrunner.
The accolades for Gunner Kiel aren’t going to stop this season and they aren’t going to stop next season either. If there is a next season. Let’s just enjoy this one first.
It’s hard not to be excited about this upcoming season when Cincinnati has such a great and heralded quarterback leading them.
