Daily links for the LA Angels including a potential Konerko-Matsui free agent swap, reason for hope for the Angels, Scioscia to reprise his role on The Simpsons and much more.
The Story: Could the Angels and White Sox swap Paul Konerko and Hideki Matsui via free agency?
The Monkey Says: Ah yes, the Halos and their never-ending quest to sign Paul Konerko. Konerko is old, but clearly still has some production left in him. Of course that is what we said about Matsui. I wouldn’t consider this too likely though as I recall some comments from Konerko earlier this year suggesting that he is more likely to retire than play for another team besides the ChiSox.
The Story: 14 reasons to have hope for the Angels.
The Monkey Says: Wait what? How does Chris Young factor into this? I know Scott Kazmir is a huge question mark, but I don’t see how signing a 31-year old starter that has only made 36 combined starts in the last three years is really even an option for the Halos, much less a reason for hope, well, unless the Angels are going to field an intramural basketball team. Pairing the 6’10” Young with 7-footer minor league prospect Loek Van Mil would create a rather intimidating frontcourt.
The Story: Mike Scioscia is set for another guest appearance on The Simpsons.
The Monkey Says: You mean Mike Scioscia recovered from his tragic illness? This is more than enough for me to watch The Simpsons again for the first time in years. Mattingly, get rid of those sideburns!
