Halo Headlines – 1/12/09

  • The Story: Mike Scioscia and Brian Fuentes are being honored by the Negro Leagues Baseball MuseumThe Monkey Says: Scioscia is being awarded the C.I. Taylor Award for best manager and Fuentes is getting the Hilton Smith Award for best reliever.  Yes, you read that right, Brian Fuentes won Reliever of the Year.  And we though the Hall of Fame voters were bad.
  • The Story: Fanball’s own Ray Flowers talks about the fantasy impact of Vladimir Guerrero heading to the Rangers.  The Monkey Says: Ray has good insight as always, but I am more impressed that he appears to have an old school Montreal Expos Guerrero jersey in the background.  That’s pretty dang awesome.
  • The Story: Are the Angels operating in a “new” Moneyball market?  The Monkey Says: This isn’t about high-OBP players but rather finding which players are being undervalued on the market and taking advantage.  I think they are spot on in identifying injury-prone veterans as the undervalued commodity and I fully expect the Halos to make a move on either Ben Sheets or Erik Bedard in the near future.
