- The Story: The Angels agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with reliever Fernando Rodney. The Monkey Says: The Angels finally get some bullpen help and Rodney racked up 37 save in 38 opportunities, so he certainly qualifies, but that doesn’t mean this was a great investment by Tony Reagins. I’ll have a more in-depth analysis on this move in a little while.
- The Story: Keith Law thinks the Angels overpaid for the underperforming Rodney. The Monkey Says: To be fair, Keith Law hasn’t liked any move any team has ever made in the history of baseball.
- The Story: The Angels are supposedly still in the Jason Bay chase. The Monkey Says: Uh, you might want to check your sources. The Angels have no place to put Bay right now and pretty much no room left in their budget, much less enough to give Bay the big money he is looking for.
- The Story: Kelvim Escobar made an appearance in the Venezuelan Winter League. The Monkey Says: Escy is still trying to make a big league comeback, this time as a reliever and has already generated major interest from the Mets. The Halos have probably had enough of watching Escobar try to make comebacks, so don’t expect them to do anything with him other than wish him luck.
