Halo Headlines – 4/23/10

  • The Story: There is no closer controversy.   The Monkey Says: Well, there should be, no matter what Mike Scioscia says.  Even if Fuentes had been lights out on Wednesday, I would still be saying that.  There is really no real talent difference between Fuentes and Rodney, so to just blindly give Fuentes the closer gig all to himself seems totally arbitrary.  I 100% support a closer-by-committee approach and am not going to let it go anytime soon.
  • The Story: Will Fuentes get paid?   The Monkey Says: Ah, yes, the old vesting option for Fuentes rears its ugly head.  Brian needs to finish 55 games to guarantee a $9 million contract with the Angels next year.  Seeing how he has finished just one game thus far this season, it isn’t looking good for him (which is probably good for the Angels).
  • The Story: Bobby Abreu is trying to find his stride.   The Monkey Says: Two doubles and a single last night is a good step forward for Bobby, but he definitely needs to take his game up a level if the Angel offense is ever really going to realize its potential.
  • The Story: Torii Hunter reminds us that it is how you finish that matters.   The Monkey Says: Thanks for the reminder, Torii, but we have all pretty much come to that conclusion already.  The level of panic amongst Angel fans due to their slow start has dissipated greatly since their five-game winning streak.
  • The Story: Angel catcher Bobby Wilson and Jose Mota will visit Warren Elementary School in Garden Grove today.   The Monkey Says: Really?  That’s it?  These kids get the news that the Angels are coming to visit and all they get is their third-string catcher and the field reporter.  Lame.
