- The Angels activated Vladimir Guerrero from the disabled list yesterday and optioned Reggie Willits to Triple-A Salt Lake to clear a roster spot for him.
- Torii Hunter says he feels fine after his weekend encounter with the outfield wall at Dodger Stadium.
- Hunter also left the team for an evening on Sunday to attend the funeral of his grandmother.
- INJURY UPDATE: After being benched for most of the last two games with a hamstring cramp, Howie Kendrick claims he is fine and ready to return to action. Can’t say I blame the Angels for being careful with Howie after how much time he missed with hamstring issues last year.
- The Angels were forced to turn to Robb Quinlan to fill in for Howie Kendrick because Maicer Izturis is ailing with a sore back, he is considered day-to-day.
- INJURY UPDATE #2: Shane Loux was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation. Rafael Rodriguez was recalled to fill Loux’s spot in the bullpen.
- Scot Shields continues to Jedi mind trick the Halo training staff into letting him remain on the active roster. The Angels recently considered placing him on the disabled list in order to let his balky left knee rest and recuperate, but thought better of it because they needed him to choke away a win over the Dodgers this weekend. Good call, fellas.
- INJURY UPDATE #3: Not really an update actually, because this article informs us that Dustin Moseley still has no idea what is causing his elbow problems and that he is being sent out for further evaluation.
- INJURY UPDATE #4: Kelvim Escobar is a little more than a week away from being ready to come off the disabled list and he very much wants to do so as a starter. Escobar might have to suck it up and head to the bullpen though considering that Matt Palmer is filling in well enough as the fifth starter and the bullpen could really use all the help it can get right now.
- Mike Scioscia continues to defend Erick Aybar despite his repeated brain cramps and is promising to let him keep his starting job. This is just further evidence that Sosh and the Angel front office have little interest in giving Brandon Wood an opportunity to earn a spot with the big league club.
- With Guerrero headed into free agency this winter, speculation is that the Angels would like him to return (rather than banish him like they do with all their other veterans a la Percival and Anderson) and that he might be had for as little as a 2-year, $10 million contract. Sounds like a good deal to me provided Vlad can prove he is healthy.
