Halo Headlines – 6/10/10

  • The Story: Mike Scioscia’s steady hand guides the AngelsThe Story: Halo fans already are well aware of just how important Sosh has been to the rise of the franchise to elite status, but it is still nice to see him get some national credit.
  • The Story: A look back at the Angels’ second day of the draft.   The Monkey Says: It looks like the hot name to monitor for the Halos will be Josh Osich, a pitcher with first-round talent that is fresh off Tommy John surgery.  If the Halos can sign him, he could prove to be the steal of the draft.
  • The Story: John Sickels reviews the Angels’ draft.   The Monkey Says: The consensus seems to be that the Angels drafted a lot of high risk/high reward players.  It may be a risky strategy, but it is nice to see the Halos putting so much emphasis on trying to inject some life into their farm system.
  • The Story: Check out the full list of Day 2 draft selections for the Angels.   The Monkey Says: Study those names hard, there will be a quiz next week.
  • The Story: A preview of some potentially available power bats on the trade market.   The Monkey Says: Expect the Angels to be linked to a lot of these names (especially Konerko) due to the loss of Kendry Morales.  However, none of the real big names are likely to end up in Anaheim due to budget and farm system depth concerns.
  • The Story: Seven Cedar Rapids Kernels players were named to the Midwest League All-Star roster.   The Monkey Says: Mike Trout, Fabio Martinez Mesa, Garrett Richards, Tyler Skaggs, Jeremy Berg, Jean Segura and Casey Haerther will represent the Kernels, though with the way Trout is playing, he might very well get promoted before the All-Star Game even takes place
  • The Story: The Halos are the glue to a diverse community.   The Monkey Says: Am I the only that sees the irony in an article that claims the Angels are the core of the diversity in Orange County even though the franchise has gone out of its way to change its name so that it isn’t associated with said county?
