- The Story: An MRI revealed mensicus damage in Erick Aybar’s left knee. The Monkey Says: That doesn’t sound good, but Aybar is going to be re-evaluated today with a DL trip a possibility. For comparison’s sake, Laker fans would know this injury because it is what is plaguing Andrew Bynum right now which might mean surgery for Aybar (albeit minor surgery that would only cost him a few weeks).
- The Story: The takeout slide on Erick Aybar was bad defense not a dirty play. The Monkey Says: I agree 100%, McGehee did nothing wrong other than play hard. If Frandsen put the throw on the money, Aybar would have escaped unscathed. I do take umbrage with the notion that the slide was payback for Trevor Bell plunking him earlier in the inning. Seeing how Randy Wolf dotted two Angels earlier in the game, the teams were more than even at that point.
- The Story: The Angels activated Brandon Wood from the DL and sent down Rafael Rodriguez. The Monkey Says: Wood is back after a less than successful “rehab” stint in Triple-A. His return comes a few days earlier than expected thanks to the Aybar injury, but it should still be interesting nonetheless to see if the Halos really give him a legit shot at winning back his starting job.
- The Story: The new and possibly improved Brandon Wood. The Monkey Says: Woody had bad numbers in Triple-A but felt like he might have started to click right before his recall. I hope that is true because what he is really missing is confidence in himself and he needs to get it back if he wants to be a contributor this year.
- The Story: Jeff Mathis is on track to return for this weekend’s series against the Cubs. The Monkey Says: It will be great to have Mathis back since it would allow Napoli to focus on improving at first base. It will be even greater if Mathis can keep hitting like he was before he got hurt.
- The Story: The Angels are being sued for a lack of wheelchair accessibility. The Monkey Says: Don’t get to riled up, the guy suing seems to be out for the good of other handicap people as he isn’t seeking any monetary compensation, only changes to the handicap amenities at Angel Stadium. In other words, he is the exact opposite of that one douchey guy who tried to sue the team because he didn’t get a free bag during a Mother’s day promotion.
