- The Story: Still waiting on Erick Aybar. The Monkey Says: Aybar got a cortisone shot in his knee yesterday and the team still has yet to decide if he is going to be placed on the DL, though it is sounding more and more likely. It is also worth noting that the story says Maicer Izturis isn’t very close to returning from his own injury.
- The Story: Brandon Wood is coming alive at the plate. The Monkey Says: Woody looks better at the plate since coming off the DL, but let’s not start singing his praises until he gets his average over .200, OK?
- The Story: How is Jered Weaver having his career season? The Monkey Says: A lot of credit is given to Weaver’s improved two-seam fastball and his more stable release point, but I would be curious to see if anyone could some how quantify that Weaver has also become a smarter pitcher? The Weaver of this season is a guy who is far more aggressive in the strike zone and much more efficient with his pitches.
- The Story: The Angels signed top picks Ryan Bolden and Taylor Lindsey. The Monkey Says: Really the only outstanding unsigned draft pick is the Angels’ first pick Kaleb Cowart who is still threatening to report to Florida State, where he recently attended orientation.
- The Story: Mike Trout and Luis Jimenez will represent the Angels at the Futures Game during All-Star Weekend. The Monkey Says: Making the team is a huge honor for any player, but especially so for Trout who hasn’t even turned 19 years old yet.
- The Story: Brian Walker homers and then calls it quits. The Monkey Says: Walker retired from the Angel farm system to spend more time with his family. You hate to see a guy give up on his big league dreams, but at least he is doing so for all the right reasons.
- The Story: For Peter Bourjos, dad helped pave the way. The Monkey Says: It sure sounds like Bourjos couldn’t ask for a better role model.
