Halo Headlines – 6/9/10

  • The Story: Kendry Morales is set for leg surgery this Thursday.   The Monkey Says: the halos should have a more definitive prognosis on his potential return date once he goes under the knife though they still really shouldn’t count on getting him back at any point this season.
  • The Story: The Angels selected a wide variety of players in the second day of the draft yesterday.   The Monkey Says: The headliner of Day 2 is sure to be college closer Daniel Tillman who was selected in the second round.  College relievers seldom have a long path to the majors, so Tillman is the odds on favorite to be the first member of the 2010 draft class to reach the majors for the Halos.
  • The Story: Kevin Frandsen is a good fit for the Angels.   The Monkey Says: As if Brandon Wood wasn’t going to have a hard enough time getting back in the line-up, it seems that Frandsen has already ingratiated himself to the rest of the roster meaning Woody is going to have even more pressure on himself to move up on the depth chart.
  • The Story: Hank Conger suffered an arm injury yesterday.   The Monkey Says: Conger was just getting hot in Triple-A, so hopefully this isn’t too serious.  If it is, this is another knock on Conger who has performed well in the minors but has proven to be rather injury prone to the point that it could force him to switch positions.
  • The Story: Is Ervin Santana back in form?   The Monkey Says: Ervin has been great lately, but his FIP suggests he should be worse.  As for his fastball velocity, I don’t think it is ever going to come all the way back, but he should be fine as he still throws hard enough and is learning to pitch smarter.
