Halo Headlines – 7/6/10

  • The Story: Juan Rivera might play today.   The Monkey Says: It sounds like he has finally figured this eye problem out and should be back soon if he still can’t go today.
  • The Story: Maicer Izturis is on the road back from injury.   The Monkey Says: It sounds like he is getting close, but is probably not quite going to be ready when the Halos return from the All-Star break.
  • The Story: Have the Angels exhausted their in-house options?   The Monkey Says: I don’t see how they haven’t.  Both on offense and in the bullpen just about everyone on the Salt Lake Bees roster has a had at least a cup of coffee with the big league team this year.  Scioscia is acting like they don’t need to make a trade, but he is just playing coy for the sake of trade leverage.  The call-ups of Paul McAnulty and Cory Aldridge clearly demonstrate that the team is looking to add some more pop to the offense and preferably from the left side of the plate.
  • The Story: Does Paul McAnulty make Mark Trumbo tradeable?   The Monkey Says: I say no, just because I have always thought Trumbo was pretty tradeable for the Angels.  But comparing McAnulty and Trumbo doesn’t make much sense although they do have similar skill sets.  McAnulty isn’t “a few years older,” he is 29 and well out of prospect range whereas Trumbo is still just 24 and has potential left to tap unlike McAnulty.  The article is right though in the assertion that McAnulty only got promoted over Trumbo because the Angels don’t want to damage Trumbo’s trade value by having him possibly look bad in a brief major league audition.
  • The Story: Tim Salmon was a star, just not an All-Star.   The Monkey Says: Poor Salmon never did get his shot at the All-Star team, but hey, maybe he can counsel Jered Weaver on what to do when you get constantly snubbed.
