- The Story: Kendry Morales was named AL Player of the Week. The Monkey Says: Teixeira who? This is Kendry’s first award of any kind in the majors and it doesn’t look like it will be his last.
- The Story: The path to being an excellent major leaguer was a long one for Kendry Morales. The Monkey Says: A lot of people were quite pleased to see K-Mo have so much success this year after battling wight and maturity issues in the minors. Let’s just hope the success doesn’t go to his head (and his head doesn’t go to McDonald’s).
- The Story: The LA Times wonders if the Angels are headed for a fall. The Monkey Says: And people think I’m negative. The LA Times could’ve at least waited until the Angels hit a losing streak or something.
- The Story: Mike Scioscia doesn’t care what people think about him continuing to use Jeff Mathis on a regular basis. The Monkey Says: This is just one of those things that you can’t reason with Sosh on. Then again, the guy was right about Maicer Izturis, so maybe he is onto something with Mathis too (even though historical statistical evidence would argue otherwise).
- The Story: It’s never too early to start thinking about a potential Freeway World Series. The Monkey Says: Actually, it probably is too early, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to speculate on finally getting a series to prove who the superior ball club in the Southland really is.
- The Story: Mike Napoli is one player who loves getting to be the designated hitter. The Monkey Says: I’d love the idea too if Jeff Mathis wasn’t hitting under .200. At least Nap is taking to the role though. Most MLBers loath the idea of being a DH.
- The Story: ESPN’s Rob Neyer takes a statistical look at how it is the Angels are achieving their success this season. The Monkey Says: I enjoy Neyer’s work, but that piece seems to take an unnecessarily circuitious and empirical route to simply state the obvious fact the the Halos are scoring more runs because they are being more patient at the plate.
