The October 17th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels release 2015 spring training schedule, a ridiculous Josh Hamilton trade rumor and much more…
The Story: The Angels released their 2015 spring training schedule.
The Monkey Says: Yup, that’s a spring training schedule. It sure looks a lot like most previous spring training schedules. The slow news period continues.
The Story: Craig Carton of WFAN floated a rumor that the Mets were interested in trading Jon Niese for Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: With the Angels picking up 70% of Hamilton’s contract. This is just absurd and it has zero legs seeing how not a single other source has picked up on it since Carton mentioned it. Frankly, it makes no sense for the Mets who reportedly shopped Niese at the trade deadline but held onto him because other teams found their asking price was too high. How their new price would suddenly be paying $25 million for the privilege of of watching Hamilton deteriorate is beyond comprehension. Honestly, I would normally ignore this sort of thing, but it is a slow news period and fans have been talking about this.
The Story: Former Angels reliever Michael Kohn has signed with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Monkey Says: He gets a major league contract, too. Kohn had flashes of being a good reliever, but he also would show longer stretches of having no idea where the ball was going. He’s certainly an arm worth taking a chance on to see if they could fix what the Angels couldn’t.
