Halo Headlines: Baldoquin looks to rebound, prospects could join class-action suit

The October 21, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Roberto Baldoquin looking to bounce back, minor-league players earning conditional class-action status in lawsuit against MLB, and more…

The Story: Baldoquin working hard for better 2016

MWAH Says: Part II of [?] in the “this guy had a bad 2015 but is optimistic he can come back strong next season.” This shouldn’t be too tough of a task for Baldoquin, who struggled mightily in his first season stateside. It’s almost as though thrusting lofty expectations on a kid who’s not only two years removed from competitive baseball but also wholly removed from his family and culture might not be the most prudent approach. The “starting shortstop by late 2016” timeline is, was, and always will be absurd.

The Story: Minor-league players granted conditional class-action status

MWAH Says: This is a big win for minor-league players in their fight for reasonable wages from MLB. That they work just as much as MLB players over the course of the year but are treated as merely “seasonal employees” is absurd. Known labor-hater Arte Moreno will probably have a fit when/if Angels prospects join the suit.

The Story: AFL club finally gets first win

MWAH Says: No thanks to any Angels prospects, unfortunately. Catcher Stephen McGee was the only Halo to take the field on Tuesday, and he went 0-for-3 at the dish. He did catch a running stealing, though, so that’s good.

The Story: Crowdsourcing contracts for Joyce and Murphy

MWAH Says: I will be very surprised if Matt Joyce ends up getting a big-league deal this winter. He was so bad in 2015, and has been so mediocre thus far in the DR winter league, that it doesn’t really make sense for a team to guarantee him money for 2016. Maybe he’ll end up with an MLB deal if a team wants to one-up all the split contract offers he’s likely to get, but even then it will be more of a parachute/incentives deal than anything else. As for David Murphy, my money is still on the Angels picking up his $7 million option.

The Story: Hike for charity at Angel Stadium

MWAH Says: Like hiking and obstacle courses but hate Cystic Fibrosis? The Angels have you covered. Even if you don’t like exerting yourself all that much, it’s a good cause and a great opportunity for kids to experience what it’s like on the field at Angel Stadium.
