The October 14, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes the team parting ways with Mike Butcher and Don Baylor, Jo-Jo Reyes electing for free agency, and more…

The Story: Angels let go Mike Butcher, Don Baylor

MWAH Says: The pessimistic part of me wonders if this was a concession by Mike Scioscia in order to guarantee something (or somethings) from Billy Eppler in the future. Like, “I’ll let you restructure part of my coaching staff if you agree to [INSERT BAD THING HERE].” The optimistic part of me thinks it’s great the two came to this decision mutually and it wasn’t a repeat of the Mickey Hatcher fiasco. Maybe they actually can work together to do good things? Lord knows both of these firings were a long time coming.

The Story: Jo-Jo Reyes clears waivers, elects free agency

MWAH Says: The journeyman’s Angels career ends with literally just one pitch thrown. I’m still baffled as to how he ended up on the active roster. Was there really something he offered that Drew Rucinski and/or Vinnie Pestano couldn’t? We’ll never know.

The Story: The Arizona Fall League kicks off

MWAH Says: The Angels’ 2015 is over, but it’s not quite over for their prospects. Alan Busenitz, Harrison Cooney, Ryan Etsell, Greg Mahle, Stephen McGee, Eric Aguilera, Caleb Adams, and Chad Hinshaw will take the field for the Mesa Solar Sox over the next two months and do their best to improve their stock in the organization. Of the eight, Mahle, Adams, and Hinshaw show the most promise.

The Story: Angels internships for 2016 are now open

MWAH Says: None of the internship opportunities are in the baseball operations department, unfortunately, but they are all paid positions. (I wouldn’t link if it were otherwise.)

The Story: Crowdsourcing David Freese’s new contract

MWAH Says: Carson Cistulli is polling readers over the next two weeks on most of this winter’s free-agent class. Today it’s David Freese, Howie Kendrick, and three others. I’d peg Freese for a three-year, $24 million deal. Embarrassingly, that’s probably out of the Angels’ price range.
