The October 28, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Eric Chavez getting hired as a special assistant to the GM, Mike Butcher getting close to locking down a new job, and more…

The Story: Eric Chavez hired as special assistant to GM

MWAH Says: Eppler can’t poach any of the big-name scouts from the Yankees because they’re all still under contract, but apparently he can bring at least one person from his previous staff. Chavez worked in the “special assistant” capacity in New York last year, dabbling in some scouting here and coaching there. He should essentially fill the role Tim Bogar left behind. He could also probably fill in at third base in a pinch, which is a definite plus.

The Story: Diamondbacks leaning toward hiring Mike Butcher

MWAH Says: It appears Butcher isn’t going to be out of a job for long. Arizona reportedly favors him to take over for Mike Harkey, but might not be the only team vying for his services. So long as he doesn’t end up somewhere else in the AL West, we wish him well.

The Story: Gubicza picks the Royals to win it in 5

MWAH Says: Might be a *slight* bias from Mark here, given his role on the 1985 champs. Holds up so far though. Best part of the pick is that he’s predicting it will end in New York but is still planning to go to KC for a potential Game 6.

The Story: Hinshaw, McGee shine in yet another AFL defeat

MWAH Says: The Solar Sox have limped out to a 2-10 record and Angels pitchers currently sport a collective 14.01 ERA, but hey at least the hitters are doing well! A third consecutive multi-hit effort from Chad Hinshaw on Tuesday bumped his average up to .545 (in 24 PA), and a two-hit game from Stephen McGee moved his to .375 (in 18 PA).

The Story: Torii Hunter officially retires

MWAH Says: And thus ends the era of the “should of resigned Torrii!” comments. As is always the case with Hunter, beat writers went out of their way yesterday to heap cloying praise upon the character of the five-time All-Star. The typically measured Mike DiGiovanna had the most cringe-worthy response, tweeting that Torii “treated everyone the same, with respect.” Yeah…. about that.

The Story: Edinson Volquez learns of father’s death after start

MWAH Says: Easily the most surreal and distressing thing about Game 1.  I was glad(?) to learn that the directive to not tell Volquez the news until after he was pulled from the game came at his family’s behest, because otherwise… yeesh. Our thoughts go out to Volquez and his family.
