The Monday, May 16, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Ji-Man Choi staying with the organization, C.J. Wilson planning to throw a simulated game at Dodger Stadium, and more…

The Story: Ji-Man Choi clears waivers, accepts outright assignment to Triple-A

MWAH Says: There was a chance that another team would claim Choi or that the Orioles would decide they wanted the Rule 5 pick back, but neither happened. Choi also could have elected for free agency, but he did not. The Angels have got to be the first team ever to select two players in the Rule 5 Draft and have them both remain in the organization despite not spending the whole year on the 25-man roster.

The Story: C.J. Wilson will throw three-inning simulated game Monday

MWAH Says: Wilson is creeping closer and closer to rejoining the rotation. If all goes well Monday, his next step is to start a rehab assignment at Triple-A. He can’t come off the 60-day DL until June 2, so he’d get at least three starts at Salt Lake before starting for the Halos.

The Story: Tyler Skaggs could resume throwing this week

MWAH Says: “Could” is the operative word there. Skaggs will endure a strength test on Monday to determine if he’s fit enough to throw. If he passes, he might start up a throwing program. He hasn’t thrown in three weeks, so it’ll be a while before he rejoins the rotation even if he’s cleared today.

The Story: Yankees listed as No. 1 trade landing spot for Angels’ Mike Trout

MWAH Says: Like, in their dreams? Using Nick Cafardo’s weekly rumor mongering as the source for such a declarative headline is a hell of a thing. Sorry, New York, he’s not being traded. Nice try, though.

The Story: C.J. Cron displaying improved plate discipline

MWAH Says: Cron’s improved walk rate has been evident for a while now. I hope drawing his attention to it doesn’t make him think too much about it and suddenly stop walking again. I doubt he’ll keep up his current 9% walk rate, but anything over, like, 7% would be a huge improvement.

The Story: The 14 heroes of Sunday’s Odor/Bautista brawl

MWAH Says: Lmao.
