The September 23, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes a slight reshuffling of the starting pitching rotation, the Yogi Berra-Los Angeles Angels connection, and more…

The Story:  Garrett Richards and Andrew Heaney to switch spots in rotation

MWAH Says:  This means Richards will be in line to start the wildcard game, if the Angels make it that far.  It’s hard to argue the move, as G-Rich is the veteran of the two, and he has been pitching well lately.  He has a 3.29 ERA in his last four starts, in which the Angels have a 3-1 record.

The Story:  Yankee great Yogi Berra passed away at 90 years of age

MWAH Says:  The Angels and Yogi Berra’s paths crossed several times in the early 1960s.  Yogi played in 33 games against the Angels, had 100 plate appearances and hit .261 with 9 home runs against the Halos.  The cruelest homer he hit against the Angels came on August 22, 1962.  The Angels were in second place and were chasing the Yanks for the pennant when Yogi hit an opposite field, two-run homer against flame-throwing reliever Dan Osinski in the eighth inning at Dodger Stadium in a game the Yanks would win 4-3.  Said Angel manager Bill Rigney afterwards:  “I wish he [Berra] would retire already.”

The Story:  The Angels’ offense this year has been really, really bad

MWAH Says:  Rob Neyer goes on to say that of all the returning hitters next year, the only one he can see having a better 2016 is Chris Iannetta.  Yeesh.  The to-be-determined general manager better get busy re-tooling this dismal Angel offense if the team is going to win a World Series before Mike Trout’s contract expires at the end of the 2020 season.

The Story:  Baseball players need more 1930s gangster-styled nicknames

MWAH Says:  I don’t know about how scary Mike “The Big Spawn” Trout sounds, but I surely wouldn’t want to meet Huston “Dead End” Street, David “Dropkick” Murphy, or Alfredo “Sure Hands” Griffin in a dark alley some day.

The Story:  The Big Spawn went upstream for the 40th time this season

MWAH Says:  Alden Gonzalez’s piece is laden with video if you want to immerse yourself in the glory of the moment.  It speaks to the inability of this club to get on base when a slugger with 40 home runs also has only 87 RBI to his name.
