The October 13, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes David Freese’s openness to staying in Anaheim, the matching and surpassing of a Halos postseason feat, and more…

The Story: David Freese interested in returning to Anaheim

MWAH Says: I like David, and I think he did an admirable job in his two years with the club, but I just don’t see this happening. Third base is the only open position on the field where the Angels have promising replacements (Kyle Kubitza and Kaleb Cowart) waiting in the wings. What little money they have should be spent on left field, second base, and DH, where only Collin Cowgill, Johnny Giavotella, and C.J. Cron separate the positions from a being black holes. I think Freese knows this, but it’s always the politically savvy move to indicate interest in returning. Gotta keep all the doors open.

The Story: Cubs homer six times, best Angels postseason feat

MWAH Says: Before Monday afternoon’s slugfest at Wrigley, the 2002 Angels were the only playoff team to have its 3-4-5-6 hitters each homer in the same game—Salmon, Anderson, Glaus, and Spezio, ALDS Game 2. The Cubs not only matched that in Game 3 yesterday, with Bryant, Rizzo, Castro, and Schwarber all hitting dingers by the fifth inning, they also surpassed it, with 1 and 2 hitters Fowler and Soler also going deep. Their six home runs is an all-time postseason record, which will probably be broken by Toronto later this week because baseball.

The Story: Young left-hander Adrian Morejon leaves Cuba for MLB

MWAH Says: The 16-year-old is likely the first of a wave of young Cuban players who will leave the island in the coming months to sign with an MLB club. Now that the Cuban government is allowing players to leave the country and MLB is loosening its waiting-period restrictions, there’s not much to keep promising young players on the island. Of course, the Angels blew their whole wad on the underwhelming Roberto Baldoquin last spring and are now restricted the next two years, so they’re unlikely to play any part in the coming exodus. Solid planning…

The Story: Pirates writer suggests Santiago for Melancon trade

MWAH Says: This is probably a top-10 hot take of the season. The trade suggestion itself is whatever—one year of a closer for three years of a starter is bad, but not all-time bad—but the whole of the article a masterwork. The entire damn thing is one-sentence paragraphs, and not a single bit of it makes a lick of sense.

The Story: Compare your salary to what Angels players make

MWAH Says: Boy, talk about a depressing exercise. I’m not sure what the goal of this little endeavor is other than to stir up resentment of the league and players. If only all our occupations could be in industries making $9 billion in revenue annually…
