Halo Headlines: Heaney snubbed in ROY vote, Anderson gets HOF vote

The November 17, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Andrew Heaney getting shut out of the AL Rookie of the Year voting entirely, Garrett Anderson not getting shut out of the Hall of Fame voting, and more…

The Story: Carlos Correa, Kris Bryant are your 2015 Rookies of the Year

MWAH Says: Francisco Lindor made it close in the AL, and probably had better numbers than Correa overall, but in the end couldn’t overcome the Correa narrative. Maybe if he hadn’t bunted quite so dang much. Anyway, I expected Andrew Heaney to muster at least one third-place vote from someone, but no. The only pitcher to get any votes at all was Roberto Osuna.

The Story: Garrett Anderson will get at least one Hall of Fame vote

MWAH Says: I guess GA will be including MLB.com’s Earl Bloom on his Christmas card list this year. I thought this was maybe just an anti-PEDs ballot gone awry, but Bloom includes Mark McGwire on his ballot, so…. I got nothing. I love Garrett, but I don’t see how he gets a HOF vote before any of Bonds, Clemens, Sheffield, Walker, Mussina, Schilling, Wagner, or Trammell.

The Story: Outfielder Ah-seop Son posted by Lotte Giants

MWAH Says: I cannot remember another time the market for a corner outfielder was so incredibly flush with talent. Son is the second Korean left fielder to make himself available to MLB clubs in the last week, and about the 14th potential quality left fielder available overall. Son doesn’t have the power of Hyeon-soo Kim, but his bat-to-ball ability (.323 BA) and on-base prowess (.398 OBP) are strong. He’ll be just 28 next season.

The Story: Nationals sign Sean Burnett to a minor-league deal

MWAH Says: Bringing in relievers the Angels acquired during the 2012 offseason is the new market inefficiency. The Royals had great success with Ryan Madson and Joe Blanton, and now the Nats will probably glide to a title on the back of Sean Burnett’s funky delivery. He missed all of 2015 recovering from Tommy John and threw only 10.1 innings in 2013 and 2014 combined, so it’s been a while.

The Story: Mariners acquire Leonys Martin from the Rangers

MWAH Says: Now that the Arte-Moreno reins are off, Jerry Dipoto is probably going to make at least one trade a week until MLB eventually decides there’s a limit to the amount of tinkering a GM can do in a calendar year. Still bittersweet to see him make savvy-seeming moves for another team.

The Story: The Angels could use Price and Greinke too

MWAH Says: Of course any team *could* use Price and Greinke, the question is whether they should. Ken Rosenthal believes that spending a ton of money on Price or Greinke would correct the mistake the team made when it spent a ton of money on Josh Hamilton. The logic here is… lacking.
