The Friday, May 20, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Tim Lincecum officially joining the team, an old friend returning to the organization, and more…

The Story: Tim Lincecum passes physical, will get $2 million base salary

MWAH Says: It was initially reported as a minor-league deal, but with that kind of money involved it’s pretty clear the Angels will install him in the rotation as soon as they feel he’s stretched out enough. Right now the plan seems to be to have him make four or five starts in Triple-A, which would make him ready for big-league action around June 15. The deal includes a $500K bonus and up to $1.7 million in incentives. We should hope he gets it all.

The Story: Shortstop Ryan Jackson reacquired from the Phillies, assigned to Triple-A

MWAH Says: Salt Lake was so short-staffed up the middle earlier this week that Kaleb Cowart got three starts at shortstop. Jackson, who spent most of 2015 as the Bees’ shortstop, will likely take over the starting gig there now for as long as Gregorio Petit is in Anaheim.

The Story: Supporting cast holds key to success for the Angels

MWAH Says: I’m not sure if they’re the key to success, but they’re certainly key to the team not going completely in the tank. We spilled a lot of ink in the preseason talking about how much quality depth the team had this season, and it has really paid off so far. I don’t think the front office expected to have to lean on those players this much early on, but I’m sure they’re glad to have them around.

The Story: Angels reliever Cam Bedrosian is a cat admirer

MWAH Says: OK?… If Bedrosian revealing to people his highly controversial stance as a cat person has somehow made him more confident (and better) on the mound, why do we even try to understand baseball?

The Story: Former Angels prospect Mike Clevinger makes MLB debut with Cleveland

MWAH Says: This is a great little story. Clevinger, who was dealt for Vinnie Pestano in August 2014, went 5+ innings and allowed four runs in his first big-league start on Wednesday.

The Story: Rangers, City of Arlington announce plans for a new stadium

MWAH Says: What a load of crap. The Ballpark in Arlington is only 20 years old and is in great shape. Surely it’s cheaper to install air conditioning and/or a roof at the existing stadium than to spend $900 million on an entirely new one.

The Story: A’s place Josh Reddick on DL, now have a dozen players sidelined

MWAH Says: The Angels may be besot with injuries, but at least they’re healthier than Oakland!
