The November 5, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes David Murphy becoming a free agent, an up-and-coming prospect reflecting on his opportunity in Arizona, and more…

The Story: Angels decline David Murphy’s option

MWAH Says: Covered this in some detail here. There’s no guarantee that the money they save on Murphy will lead to a big-name signing, but at least they have the means necessary to get involved in those discussions now.

The Story: Caleb Adams trying to make most of AFL opportunity

MWAH Says: The article is framed through the lens of Adams “reuniting” with Inland Empire hitting coach Brent Del Chairo, which is weird because they were never apart. Adams spent the second half of 2015 in High-A with Chairo, and is now with him some more. Anyway, Adams is a taxi player in the AFL this year, so he plays but two games a week. The corner outfielder is 7-for-23 with two dingers and a double so far.

The Story: Solar Sox lose again, to surprise of no one

MWAH Says: Angels pitchers were the goats this time as Mesa surrendered double-digit runs for the second day in a row. Ryan Etsell, Greg Mahle, and Alan Busenitz combined to allow 10 runs in five innings of work, while Harrison Cooney somehow snuck in two scoreless innings. Chad Hinshaw kept it going at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a dinger.

The Story: Angels place 16th on ESPN’s Way-Too-Early power rankings

MWAH Says: Missed this yesterday. Seems like a fair ranking from Dave considering all the question marks facing the club heading into the winter. ESPN also released a Future Power Rankings yesterday, but it requires an Insider subscription that I don’t have or want. Totally would have paid for Grantland though.

The Story: C.J. Cron seizes DH spot

MWAH Says: I’m not sure “seizes” is the right word there. More like “well, we don’t have anyone else and you’re not that bad at the plate so I guess you can have the” DH spot.

The Story: T.J. Simers awarded $7.1 million in suit against LA Times

MWAH Says: That is one hefty chunk of change. Simers contended that his termination from the Times was discriminatory on the grounds of age and health, and that the paper wanted him to stop writing bad things about Frank McCourt and Arte Moreno. The jury agreed on the former, at least.

The Story: Prince Fielder, Matt Harvey named Comeback Players of the Year

MWAH Says: A-Rod was robbed.
